Secret Santa set to deliver

Raynham’s Secret Santa, an effort started in 1988 by former school custodian Butch Slavick, has continued after his death in 2009. Slavick began the drive, delivering gifts anonymously to local families, after noticing schoolchildren in need of winter clothing. His family, along with many town departments, businesses, and community members, have pitched in to help 35 families and about 70 children this holiday season, with donations of clothing, toys, and food certificates. Seniors helped with donations and even knitted red-and-white Christmas stockings. Presents are wrapped and ready to be delivered this week, according to police Officer Jeff Finch. “It’s important to us to continue to help families in need in town,” said Sandra Slavick, Butch’s daughter-in-law. “It’s the community helping the community.”
