Out of fear for a dog’s safety, a woman drove across a double yellow line, hit a pole, and flipped her car on West Street, according to a police report. In the wake of the Dec. 7 incident, Meredith Sprague, 41, of Kingston, was charged with driving to endanger. Sprague told officers she was trying to hold back her own dog in her car and avoid one that dashed into its path. Her car flipped over and hit the pole, knocking out power in the neighborhood for several hours. Police said they could find no witnesses to corroborate Sprague’s claim about the crossing dog. A nearby West Street resident offered to take care of Sprague’s pet while she received medical attention at South Shore Hospital.
