A security protocol that teaches staff and students to actively resist an armed intruder will be the one subject of a Jan. 8 meeting of the School Committee. Canton Police Chief Kenneth Berkowiz will provide an overview of ALICE — which stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate — and discuss how it will be customized for students from elementary to high school. The protocol was recently adopted by top school officials in Canton, but Superintendent Jeffrey Granatino has said students will not learn to use its enhanced strategies until parents and school board members learn more about it.
