Some families go all-out on holiday light displays

It’s the time of year when smatterings of rainbow and gold lights appear on trees and houses everywhere, illuminating evening trips in the cold. Driving around town, one sees plastic Santas affixed to rooftops and twinkling lights decorating doorframes. And then there’s that one house — the one the whole neighborhood drives by to look and smile. The one so covered in shimmering holiday decorations that people can’t help but feel the cheer, even as winter arrives. The families who choose to cover their homes in lights, candy canes, and plastic glowing elves make sacrifices to light up their neighborhood. A lot of time goes into setting everything up, and a lot of money goes into keeping the whole production illuminated. Some install separate circuits in their yards to power their displays. For many, it has been a family tradition for years, and they say the mini-wonderlands in their yards will always be part of their holiday seasons.
