Two get Firefighter of Year awards


Fire Captain James Walsh and firefighter-paramedic Richard Salve have been honored with state Firefighter of the Year awards for rescuing a man trapped inside a burning apartment at Elise Circle last December. The smoke was so thick that they had to use thermal imaging to find Jeffrey Willis. Fire Chief Thomas Stone said Willis would have died but for the firefighters’ bravery.
