The town’s Public Works Department is offering two drop-off collection sites for outdated or broken holiday lights through Jan. 31. If your lights use too much energy to operate — or to put up and take down — each year, you don't have to throw them away; the copper wires and other parts can be separated and recycled. The lights can be dropped off at the DPW’s offices at 1 Lyman Place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, and at the Winter Street composting site between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The town asks residents not to dispose of lights in their regular home recycling bins.
