Kingston Wind Independence has given an update on its turbine efficiency, saying that 2.1 million kilowatt hours of energy have been generated since its start-up last spring. "We're very excited," said manager Kially Ruiz, adding "it's the offsetting pollution equivalent of planting 38,000 trees." The 400-foot, industrial sized turbine is located on the town's former landfill, and it has to date experienced no mechanical difficulties. "It has had 99.7 percent availability," said Ruiz, saying it has only required "minor, regular maintenance." Its operation, however, hasn't been complaint-free. As a result of abutter complaints, state officials have contracted a study of the turbine's noise and flicker impact on neighbors, which is just getting underway.
