Raynham

Classics for everyone

The Raynham Public Library has planned a different experience for book club enthusiasts with a series called Great Books-Big Ideas. The new program aims to bring the classics to residents in a fun and informative way, and explore “big ideas” such as immortality, honor, pride, virtue, desire, and redemption. The club will meet for 12 sessions at 6:30 p.m., starting Jan. 16 and continuing every other Wednesday at the library, 760 South Main St. The program begins with “The Epic of Gilgamesh,” an ancient Sumerian work and possibly the oldest written story, and will include works by Homer, Chaucer, Ovid, and Dante. The group will be discussion-driven and facilitated by resident John Winters, an adjunct faculty member in English at Bridgewater State University. For more information, contact the library at 508-823-1344. or visit raynhampubliclibrary.org. Winters will post information about the program and readings at www.johnjwinters.com.
