Town seeks rehab funds

A public hearing is planned for 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 15 at town hall to seek residents’ input into Carver’s Community Development Strategy, a mandatory step toward applying for the state’s Community Development Block Grants. The state’s block grant program is a federally funded, competitive program designed to help small cities and towns meet their development needs. It provides money for projects that assist low- and moderate-income residents or revitalize blighted areas. Carver’s Planning Board will be seeking housing rehab money targeted to the Crystal Lake, Great Meadow, Pinetree Village,  and Cranberry Village neighborhoods. The board’s Community Development Strategy will also seek funds for child-care stipends to help parents who are working, going to school, or enrolled in job training. To be eligible, household income can be no higher than 80 percent of the state median income.
