Town officials recently discussed the possibility of hiring a full-time facilities manager to keep an eye on the repair needs for town-owned buildings. Capital Improvement Planning Committee member Norman Hills and Selectman Jody Dickerson toured 11 buildings that need, or may soon need, repairs. The men told the Board of Selectmen that the town should stay ahead of maintenance rather than respond to emergencies, such as the collapsed ceiling at the Marion Natural History Museum last July. Town Adminstrator Paul Dawson said he would canvass nearby towns that have such managers to see what they are paid. Hills said there is no timetable for hiring, as the proposal must first go to the Finance Committee, then Town Meeting.
