Groundbreaking for new medical complex

Jordan Hospital celebrated the start of construction on a 30,000-square-foot medical office building on its campus during a groundbreaking Monday. The building will house Jordan Ob/Gyn and Midwifery, Jordan Primary Care, and some of the hospital's specialist doctors. The building will be owned and managed by Whelan Associates, a New Bedford-based developer. According to Jordan spokesman Christopher Smalley, construction should be complete and the building open sometime in September. "What this project represents is a new chapter in the hospital's evolution as a top-notch provider of health care on the South Shore," Smalley said. Jordan Hospital, a 155-bed acute-care community hospital, serves 12 towns in Plymouth and Barnstable counties.
