City officials are optimistic about the March deadline for the relocating the Town Brook, part of the project to revitalize downtown Quincy. According to Assistant City Solicitor Paul Hines, the permits granted to the city by the Department of Environmental Protection mandate that the project be mostly completed by March 1, before smelt-spawning season begins early that month. Engineers have been working since mid-2012 to re-route the city brook, which currently lies in the way of new development. Plans call for moving the brook to the outskirts of the city center alongside the Walter Hannon Parkway.
