School field delayed by weather

A large field behind the newly renovated Rochester Memorial Elementary School still isn’t ready for students to use, and members of the Rochester School Committee are wondering what’s being done about it. According to Gene Jones, facilities director for the Old Rochester Regional School District, the subcontractor for the project, Mountain View of Chicopee, working under Gilbane, the general contractor, is working on the field but has been delayed by weather. She said the field has been seeded and treated with winter fertilizer, and officials hope it will be ready for use in spring. The school’s renovation project went smoothly, she said, and the field is the last part to be completed.
