Neighborhood health center receives $125,000 grant

The Brockton Neighborhood Health Center will digitize patient dental records, thanks to a $125,000 grant announced during a ceremony at its Main Street headquarters Monday. The money will cover purchase and installation of the electronic system along with staff training, according to Sue Joss, the center’s executive director. “We’ve had electronic medical records for about five years, but only paper dental records,” Joss said. “The new system will make it easier to coordinate care so our medical providers can look at dental notes for their patients.” The center serves 24,000 patients, and about 5,000 use the dental program. Joss said an expansion to the center, set to open any day, will increase the number of dental rooms from 10 to 22. The $125,000 award is part of $4.25 million in first-round grants provided by Neighborhood Health Plan and Partners HealthCare to all 49 members of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers. The three organizations have partnered in an initiative expected to yield up to $90 million in grants over 15 years to community health centers to improve access and promote health equity.
