Lakeville

Town updating rail protection areas

The town is seeking volunteers to work with the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District on updating South Coast Rail’s Priority Development Areas and Priority Protection Areas. Development areas are regions that can handle more development because they have the necessary access, infrastructure, environmental conditions, and local support, according to the town’s website. Protected areas are those with significant environmental factors such as endangered species habitat, areas critical to water supply, or scenic vistas. Anyone interested in volunteering to update the plan should send an e-mail to tcraig@lakevillema.org  or a letter to the selectmen’s office at 346 Bedford St., Lakeville, Mass., 02347. To see a copy of the existing plan, which came out in 2008, visit www.lakevillema.org
