Weymouth

New well rules proposed

The town is proposing new rules for private wells, including requirements that the town Health Department be notified before a well is drilled, according to Health Director Daniel McCormack.   “This would give us better tracking of where and when these wells are installed [so we can] be sure they are safe,” he said. The town could intervene beforehand if a well were planned in an area with known contamination, he said. Weymouth has a list of 732 private wells, most for irrigation purposes, he said. “This won’t affect a lot of people, but we do have a few installed every year,” he said.
