South Street Gallery hosts Audobon benefit

To support the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the South Street Gallery will hold a benefit exhibition featuring local and regional artists’ depictions of farms, fields, and meadows. The paintings will be on display for a month starting Feb. 1.  The gallery’s donation will depend on how many paintings are sold, but according to gallery manager Kate Sotolova,   previous benefits for organizations such as the Food Pantry have generated up to $700 for charity. Sotolova said she hopes the specialty exhibition would bring a new type of audience to the gallery. “We do want to draw new people in, maybe people who have never been here before,” Sotolova said. “I just think the idea of the main subject matter — open spaces — appeals to people.”
