Town Council approves 18+ dance club

The Randolph Town Council has approved a proposal to open an 18+ dance club in the space where The Clubhouse formerly operated on Mazzeo Drive. The building has housed two bars in the past. The Randolph Country Club was the source of few problems and continues to operate, but The Clubhouse had been a headache for police and neighbors, due to noise and parking lot brawls. Owner Jack Gateman agreed to close The Clubhouse in November to avoid a disciplinary hearing. The Town Council told Gateman he could return with an alternative use for the space. While alcohol will be served at the new dance club, patrons have to produce identification to get drinks. Gateman has also hired a former police officer as security manager. According to Councilor James Burgess, the dance club will be open one or two nights a week, probably Fridays and Saturdays.
