The Feb. 12 Special Town Meeting will consider appropriating $125,000 to fund engineering costs for installing a traffic light and making other improvements at the intersection of Route 53 (Washington Street) and Pleasant Street, according to Town Administrator Edwin Thorne. The transportation bond bill adopted by the state Legislature last year authorized $1.3 million for the project. Thorne said the town, which is responsible for the engineering costs, needs to do that work so the project can proceed when the state schedules it for construction. The project also includes new sidewalks and curbing.
