Summer Institute seeks program ideas

The School Department’s Summer Institute, an athletic and enrichment program for kindergarteners through eighth-graders, is looking for course proposals. Teachers, parents, senior citizens, and college students are welcome to submit proposals on subjects ranging from arts and crafts, to cooking, dance, sports, foreign languages, and math. The pay scale for instructors is $12 to $35 per hour, depending on education, experience, and the proposed offering. The program runs in weekly sessions, from 9 a.m. to noon, for five weeks, beginning July 1, at the Jordan Jackson and Qualters middle schools. For more information, contact program director Shawna Leary at 508-261-7539 or visit the School Department’s website at The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28.
