Cultural grants announced

The Duxbury Cultural Council recently announced this year’s cultural grant recipients after reviewing nearly $17,000 in funding requests. Awards will go to the Art Complex Museum, Mass Audubon/South Shore Sanctuaries, the South Shore Conservatory, Friends of the Duxbury Council on Aging, North River Arts Society, Duxbury Free Library,   the Duxbury Student Union,   the Fuller Craft Museum, the Massachusetts High School Drama Festival, which will be hosted by Duxbury, the Pilgrim Hall Museum, Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, Snug Harbor Community Chorus , South Shore Arts Center, and John Root/Sustainable Duxbury. This year’s allotment from the state to the town totaled just under $4,500. Cultural Council member Janet Ritch said it is a challenge to select the requests to be funded. “We try to do something for every age group,” she said. “The awards are supposed to be multicultural and intergenerational.” Those who weren’t selected this year may apply for next year’s awards in the fall.
