The Norton Open Space Committee is looking for three volunteers to fill longtime vacancies on the committee, according to Jennifer Carlino, the town’s conservation agent. The group should have seven members but has only four. Carlino attributed the lack of volunteers to residents’ busy lives, but said the committee usually meets only once or twice a month. From March through November, the committee plans environmental programs and events, including a forestry program, environmental stewardship group for local conservation property, and removal of invasive water chestnut plants from Barrowsville Pond. The committee requires no special qualifications and is open to “anybody interested in doing fun projects,” she said.
