Town clerk favors separate elections

While the state has given communities the options of merging their local elections with the April 30 primary  or June 25 general election to fill the US Senate seat vacated by John Kerry, town clerk Ron Fucile  said he doesn’t plan to recommend those options. Fucile prefers keeping the town election on June 1. “We have a requirement in our charter that the annual election is the first Saturday in June,” Fucile said. “The selectmen would have to suspend what’s in the charter, and I’m not sure how they would do that.” He added that holding two elections on the same day would probably not save any money because it would require two separate ballots and more election workers. “It would be two of everything,” he said.
