To encourage participation in Braintree’s third annual One Braintree, One Book program, Thayer Public Library will host a visit by actress Linda Myer on March 23. The event will promote the communitywide reading of “The Great Gatsby,” published in 1925. Myer will portray Sophie Tucker, an actress and singer who came to fame in the 1920s and is known as “the last of the red hot mamas.” According to a press release, Myer will show how Tucker climbed “the show business ladder from the crowded tenements of Boston’s North End to Hollywood.” The event is one of several the library will host through April as part of the program.
