Quincy High nominated as green school

Massachusetts Green Ribbon Schools has nominated Quincy High School as a state finalist for the US Department of Education’s GRS recognition award. Schools are recognized for environmentally friendly policies and instruction, and for improving the health of students and staffers. According to Mayor Thomas Koch, the credit should go to Principal Frank Santoro, who not only helped implement a “green” curriculum, but also promoted the use of eco-friendly products and increased school recycling. Coupled with the city’s Green Community designation and solar panels on the school’s roof, the recognition is not surprising, Koch said. A panel of judges at the state level will review Quincy’s nomination before a winner is selected.
