School budget would rise 2 percent

Dedham’s School Committee unanimously approved a $35.9 million budget request for fiscal 2014, which begins July 1. The budget, which eventually will require Town Meeting approval, would rise about $700,000, or 2 percent, from this year’s. Some of the increases were state mandated, including $168,157 for out-of-district tuition for special education students and $278,292 in contractual obligations for personnel. Dedham also added two full-time positions, a math coach and a middle school psychologist, which account for $119,850. For more information on the pending budget, visit
