Local seniors have a chance to obtain and use a cellphone at no cost. The Council on Aging on March 13 is hosting a presentation on SafeLink Wireless, a program offered by TracFone Wireless that provides eligible households a cellphone and up to 250 monthly minutes for free. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior center, 132 Maquan St. Representatives from SafeLink will provide information on the program and help seniors apply for the service. To be eligible, recipients must meet income requirements or be on a government assistance program such as Medicaid or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, previously known as food stamps.
