Governor pushes his budget

Governor Deval Patrick visited Norwood last Tuesday to promote his fiscal 2014 budget proposal at the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting. Patrick’s proposal, which is subject to approval by the Legislature, would increase the state income tax rate and cut the sales tax rate as part of a program to raise nearly $2 billion, which the governor says he wants to reinvest in infrastructure. Patrick made his case by citing the state’s spending on infrastructure in previous generations and asked, “What kind of Commonwealth do we want for future generations?” Patrick said that most people agree on the need to invest in transportation and education, and he wants to “have an adult, fact-based conversation about how to pay for it.”
