Selectmen approve traffic light

A plan to improve a Weymouth Street intersection in Holbrook took a step forward on Feb. 27, when the Board of Selectmen approved a configuration for traffic signals. After hearing a report from the engineering company of Coler & Colantonio detailing the effect signals or a roundabout would have on the intersection, the board voted for signals, with an eastbound left-turn lane. It authorized the engineers to create a 25 percent design, which could bring the project closer to receiving state funding. When larger projects on the state’s Transportation Improvement Program list get delayed, smaller projects on the list that are “shovel ready” often receive funding, Town Administrator William Phelan said. Marjorie Godfrey, assistant town administrator, said the intersection of Pine, Sycamore, and Weymouth streets has had “a lot of accidents, and some of them pretty severe.”
