All fifth-graders will be relocating to the Wareham Middle School this fall, at the start of the 2013-2014 year. Superintendent Barry Rabinovitch said the elementary schools are currently using portable classrooms that are more than 20 years old and the space “is not optimum for learning.” The middle school, on the other hand, has plenty of room; it was renovated and expanded in 2005. Rabinovitch said the building was designed to hold up to 960 students, and with the addition of the fifth-graders the school will have 880 students. School officials are looking at changing the way they transport students so fifth-graders will not have to travel to school with high school students, “which was the primary concern of parents,” said School Committee chairman Geoff Swett.
