Town applying for boat grant

The town is applying for a state grant to buy a small boat for use by the harbormaster’s office to pump out liquid waste from boats in Mattapoisett Harbor, said Town Administrator Michael Gagne. The Clean Vessel Act Grant would pay for a boat in the range of $20,000 to $25,000, Gagne said, adding the state would also pay for 75 percent of costs associated with the boat, such as fuel and staffing, with any other costs coming from the town’s Waterways Enterprise Fund. The town currently has a pump-out station that boats pull up to, Gagne said, but the new boat would allow pumping out of boats moored in the harbor, which is a no-discharge zone.
