School building costs rising

A $750,000 project to replace windows at Lieutenant Peter M. Hansen Elementary and William H. Galvin Middle schools has become a $2.3 million project because of toxins found in the window caulking, according to Canton Public Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Granatino. At a recent meeting, selectmen committed to supporting the project at the increased cost and suggested bonding as a solution to find the money. The Massachusetts School Building Authority had committed to paying for part of the project at $750,000, and school officials hope that will continue once they apply for a higher amount.
