Animal-cruelty charges

Animal cruelty charges have been filed against Anna Nelson, the town’s former animal control officer, for allegedly failing to provide veterinary care for her dog. The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell Animal Medical Center alleges that Nelson’s 10-year-old terrier mix was underweight and suffering from an undiagnosed disease, and ultimately had to be euthanized. Nelson is to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on April 24. In a separate case, MSPCA-Angell filed animal cruelty charges against Dennis Murray of Wareham, who allegedly abandoned his 13-year-old poodle mix at the Onset Water Department on a cold day in January. The dog, known as Chara, has since been adopted and lives in a new home. Murray is to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on April 18.
