For about 20 years, the Tri-Town League of Women Voters has hosted candidates’ nights for those running for public office to air their views before voters, said John Russell, treasurer of the group. The next one is scheduled for May 1 at 7 p.m. at Marion Music Hall, 164 Front St., with six contested seats in Marion’s annual election May 17. “Voting isn’t an opportunity, but an obligation to keep the system running,” said Russell, whose wife, Claire, is the league’s bulletin editor. In years with contested races, 40 to 50 people typically show up for candidates’ night, said Russell, adding, “We expect a good turnout this year.”
