Metal recycling: First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church will hold the fourth annual Free Metal Recycling Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring scrap metal, including appliances, pipe, air conditioners, fencing, file cabinets, bikes, and grills. Volunteers will help with unloading. No propane, glass, or other hazardous materials. Jedi Master Awesome Robb will perform mind tricks. Use the power of the Force to defeat the Sith with light sabers, meet Anakin Skywalker, make a R2-D2 droid, and refuel with galactic snacks. Bird lecture: The Marion Natural History Museum presents “Massacre on Bird Island: The Conundrums of Conservation on One of the Largest Roseate Tern Colonies in North America,” with nature author Robert Finch on Friday at the Marion Music Hall from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Finch will recount a visit that he made to Marion’s Bird Island with tern experts Peter Trull and Ian Nisbet and will discuss some of the questions and contradictions that arise when trying to establish wildlife sanctuaries. $8 for nonmembers.
