Local police aided bombing response

Three Sharon police officers assisted law enforcement in Boston during the week of the Boston Marathon bombing, according to Lieutenant Tilden Kaufman, a spokesman for the Sharon Police Department. Detective Kevin Bishop and Patrolmen Jeff Penders and Steven Fontes went to Boston along with police from other communities that belong to the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council, he said. The 42-member council, which includes the sheriff’s departments of Norfolk and Plymouth counties, provides regional aid when needed. Kaufman said the Sharon officers had been assigned to work the Marathon before the bombing, and police from the council provided general assistance throughout the week, he said.
