Solar farm may make payments

Selectmen are reviewing an agreement to have the developer of a Monponsett Street solar-power project, which is exempt from property taxes, make significant payments in lieu of taxes to the town. The solar farm would produce up to 2.5 megawatts of electricity, and is being developed by Independence Solar V on a parcel in the southern part of town. Under a draft of the agreement, the developer would pay the town $18,200 per installed megawatt capacity a year for 20 years and other costs. “This will also have to go to Town Meeting,” said Town Administrator Charlie Seelig.
