English teacher named principal

Barbara Starkie taught English at Apponequet Regional High School for 17 years, where she was also head of the department, before leaving to become assistant principal at Stoughton’s O’Donnell Middle School for the past three years. Starkie returns to town July 1 as the new principal of Apponequet High, the unanimous recommendation of a search committee and appointed by Superintendent of Schools Jessica Huizenga. Starkie will replace David Patota, Freetown-Lakeville Middle School principal, who had served as the high school’s interim principal and who will return to the middle school leadership position this fall. The high school post opened when principal Jill Proulx left last summer to become assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction, and staff development in Scituate public schools. “We’re very excited for her return, she’s a dynamic, instructional leader,” Huizenga said of Starkie. “She’ll take Apponequet to the next level.”
