Town manager gets raise

Selectmen agreed to give Town Manager Kevin Paicos a 2 percent raise, following no raise after his first year on the job and a 3 percent salary “adjustment” — but no raise — last year. The decision followed a recent performance review in which the five-member board merged their individual ratings to settle on “meets expectations” and “satisfactory.” At Tuesday’s meeting, Selectwoman Lorraine Brue suggested a 3.25 percent raise, in line with private sector standards. She said Paicos’s “financial management and execution of tasks is excellent.’’ Selectman James DeVellis said a satisfactory performance in the public sector warrants just 2 percent. Board chairman Mark Sullivan said Paicos has performed some very good work but had also been responsible for “some train wrecks.’’ The raise increases Paicos’s $148,320 base salary to $151,286.40.
