Jan to be honored at dinner

Former Duxbury resident Razia Jan will be honored, along with three other area women, at the Speak for Thyself Awards Dinner at the Duxbury Senior Center on May 31. Jan is known for her work to improve the lives of Afghan women and girls through education, and was named a CNN Hero of 2012. In 2008 Jan founded the Zabuli Education Center in a village outside of Kabul. The school provides free education to 300 Afghan girls. Tickets to the awards dinner can be purchased for $75 at the Alden House Historic Site at 105 Alden St. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible and benefits the preservation of the Alden House Historic Site.
