The town last week joined the growing number of communities imposing a moratorium on medical marijuana facilities. Town Meeting voted overwhelmingly Monday to prohibit facilities that sell, grow, or distribute medical marijuana and related products until June 30, 2014. Town Meeting also voted to prohibit public consumption of medical marijuana or any marijuana in Walpole, with fines up to $300 for violations. The restricted areas include streets, sidewalks, stairs, bridges, parks, playgrounds, boat landings, public buildings, parking lots, cemeteries, and any land under the control of the town. Both actions were taken by voice votes.
