Town Meeting overwhelmingly approved a new zoning district that allows multiple uses in the area near Nantasket Beach. The purpose of the “Nantasket Beach Overlay District” is to stimulate commercial and residential development to revitalize the area and bring in more tax revenue, according to officials. The zoning provides incentives for development that is designed to withstand flooding and that is “pedestrian and bicycle friendly.” The measure, which needed a two-thirds vote, passed on a voice vote at the May 7 session of Town Meeting.
