GlobeSouth: Players of the Week, Top 10 boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams

High 5

Jake Cox , Xaverian: In wins over Needham, 13-10, and Boston College High, 8-7 in overtime, en route to the Division 1 finals, the junior attackman from Westwood stood out with five goals, including four vs. Needham. His lone goal vs. BC High was a momentum-shifter, coming one minute after the Eagles took a two-goal lead.

Alex Dalton , Notre Dame (Hingham): A hat trick from the senior captain in the Division 1 South championship, a 10-7 triumph over Westwood, not only avenged the Cougars’ loss to the Wolverines in the 2012 semifinals, but also ended a run of six consecutive sectional titles for Westwood.

David Freitas , Hingham: The senior attackman accounted for more than a third of the top-seeded Harbormen’s offense on the week, collecting nine total goals in a Division 2 East quarterfinal win over Winchester (13-7) and semifinal win over Beverly (8-4). Six of those nine came in the first half vs. Winchester.

John Mills , Cohasset: Since a 25-1 thrashing of Blue Hills to open tournament play, the senior midfielder/attackman has collected 10 goals in three games — wins over Hull, Hamilton-Wenham, and Canton — to land the Skippers in the Division 3 state championship. Two of his three in the semifinals vs. Canton came 11 seconds apart and gave his team what ended up being a permanent lead.

Maddie Ward, Norwell: Seven goals and an assist against Ashland and Duxbury en route to the Division 2 South crown proved to be just a warmup for the senior captain. She had six goals and four assists as Norwell pounded Winchester, 20-8, to claim the state title. Ward finished with 91 goals and 26 assists from the midfield this season.
