Katie Albanese, an 11th-grade student at Scituate High School, has been awarded the Christian Herter Scholarship from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. One of 25 students selected from a pool of 500 students, Albanese will receive financial support at any college in the country. According to Sharon Mohr, a counselor at Scituate High, the award recognizes personal strength, academic promise, and a desire to pursue a postsecondary education. “She is the first student from SHS to be awarded this honor in a very long time,” Mohr said. Albanese had to complete a lengthy application to receive the award, including an autobiographical essay that demonstrated leadership qualities, challenges overcome, achievements, and community outreach.
