The Board of Selectmen recently approved the promotion of Alvan T. Fuller III from firefighter/paramedic to captain in the Fire Department. Town Manager Michael Yunits promoted Fuller on the recommendation of Chief Paul Schleicher. The town opted to fill the position from within the department, and Fuller was selected based on his performance on a civil service exam, according to Yunits. He fills the position that became vacant last year when David Myles was promoted to deputy chief. Fuller, of Norton, joined the department as a call firefighter in 1996 and was appointed a permanent firefighter/paramedic in November 2000. He graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in June 2001. In addition to his other duties, he has served as the department’s in-house mechanic. In May 2010 he was commended for saving an individual who was in full cardiac arrest due to airwave obstruction, Yunits said.
