Town selectmen are being asked to seeks bids for a second time from companies willing to build a solar energy project on the town’s capped landfill, downhill from the Independence wind turbine. The town had awarded a contract to Borrego Solar Systems Inc., but Borrego withdrew from the project last summer. Green Energy Committee chairman Mark Beaton said recently that he believes an improved economic climate makes the time right to take the solar project out to bid again. Town Meeting agreed three years ago to give town officials permission to seek private operators for both a wind turbine and a solar project on the capped landfill. The turbine began operations last year. Both projects are expected to make money for the town.
