Police say that relations between bicyclists and drivers reached a new low last weekend when they charged a 52-year-old bicyclist with hitting an elderly Cohasset driver in the face. “So much for share the road,” said acting Police Chief William Quigley. He said police received a 911 call at about 10:15 a.m. on July 6 from a 72-year-old Cohasset man who said he’d pulled out of the Stop & Shop plaza on Route 3A and almost collided with a bicyclist, who signaled for him to stop. The motorist told police that when he got out of his car, the bicyclist pushed him and hit him in the face, breaking his sunglasses and knocking a tooth loose, Quigley said. Police arrested James Clifford, 52, of Norwell, on a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a person over 60 and vandalism of property (the sunglasses), Quigley said. He pleaded not guilty in Quincy District Court last week.
