High Five

Matt Bender, Walpole Post 104: The Southern Maine-bound right fielder got eight RBIs on a grand slam in the fourth inning, a solo shot in the sixth, and a three-run blast in the seventh inning of Post 104’s regular season finale, a 22-3 stomping of Medfield Post 110 last Saturday. Bender batted .388 with five home runs through 23 games this season.


John Granahan, Rockland Cardinals: Granahan led the Cranberry League in batting average with .537 (minimum 45 plate appearances) and posted a .732 slugging percentage in 16 games. He hit 5-for-6 in the season’s final three games that included two doubles and three RBIs.

Rob McCunney, Brockton Rox: Leadoff hitter McCunney went 2-for-3 with three runs scored in a 7-5 win over Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide on Sunday to give his team its third straight win. The Fordham rising senior second baseman/shortstop from Cohasset is batting .276 through 36 games.

Bryan Rocha, Brockton Dirt Dogs: The Cranberry League Rookie of the Year batted 5-for-13 through the final six games of his first CBL season. Rocha, a DH at Bentley University, played catcher for the Dirt Dogs and saw limited game action; he was rested during a doubleheader played in a heat wave.

Courtney Zambello, Mass Drifters Showcase (Gold) 18U: Zambello, a rising senior who threw four no-hitters this year for Cardinal Spellman, pitched 17 innings, striking out 18 batters in the Carolina Cardinals Classic in Raleigh, N.C. She gave up four hits and two runs.
