Uncertainty over town manager


The town manager’s position has been in limbo since Kevin Paicos left in late May for a two-week military leave and never returned to work. Selectmen have held several executive sessions with labor attorney Leo Peloquin in recent weeks, including a scheduled half-hour session on Tuesday that lasted 2½ hours before ending with no public announcement. “We’re close, that’s all I can say,’’ selectmen chairman Mark Sullivan said after the closed-door discussion, declining to make any further comments. Officials named Town Clerk Robert Cutler as acting town manager this month and have twice postponed public sessions to discuss plans to go forward with an interim town manager. Selectmen released a joint statement with Paicos on May 29 saying they had mutually agreed not to extend the manager’s contract beyond June 30, 2014, when it expires.
