Architectural student wants to serve on Planning Board

Nicholas Velozo, who is attending graduate school at Boston Architectural College, hopes to be appointed as an associate member of the Planning Board. Velozo, who works for an architectural firm in Fall River, has submitted an application for the position and will be interviewed by the board on Aug. 20. If the board recommends appointing Velozo to the three-year term, the recommendation will be brought before the Board of Selectmen, where a majority vote of the two boards will be needed for his appointment. Planning technician Lauren Moreau said that Velozo is the sole applicant thus far. The associate member will be called to serve on an as-needed basis for special permit issues. “It’s nice to see that there’s interest from someone seeking to serve the town in which they live,” Moreau said. “If he is appointed, I think his professional experience will be an asset to the Planning Board.”
